yes the Shastras recommend daily tarpan for recently deceased pitrus. And water is always offered towards the south for direct forefathers. But it is advised that simultaneously God’s and rishis are also offered water towards East, also one should know the Sandhya rules well: always darbha grass is worn as a ring, and pranayama and Gayatri recitation is required to balance the energies of forefathers. if in doubt it is better to do Daan on amavasyas along with shraddha on thithi.
