You can always use the natural activation. Take Aries as 16 and use +-12.
I read in one of the Bhrighu Saral Paddhati that Mars is activated at the age of 27 and it also activates the 10th house from itself. So far I have tested this on some charts and it holds true. Personal example at the age of 27, I had to undergo a surgery since in my chart Mars is placed in 8th house with ketu and hence I had surgery for my lower back.
